Paul has written and implemented the HFIP for this work and is undertaking signaller/driver task and error analysis to support the safety case for the HCI prototype to be tested on a test track. The scope also includes Human Reliability Analysis for degraded modes of operation and HCI design and assessment. The main bulk of the work will derive requirements for the detailed design and build phase for DMWS.

As part of this work Paul has extensively reviewed trap and drag accidents on UK and Australian Railways so as to derive and modify existing requirements for the CCTV Standard. The work also involved cab assessments, reviews against CCTV standards in other industries, HAZOPs and derivation of dedicated Human Factors criteria for trialling and proving CCTV operability. The standard update should ensure that up to date technology and best Human Factors practice in CCTV design is incorporated.
